Baby Rescued From a Trash Heap

Warning – Sensitive Content

CIDM’s presence in Jacmel sometimes brings desperate needs to our attention. This story was one of them.

With the added needs of the baby, CIDM was able to provide food for this family until they could do for themselves.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger and you took me in. I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me…Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for Me.” Matthew 25:35-37

I love that CIDM is organic and small enough to meet people’s desperate needs.  As these needs are made known to our CIDM staff, we can help in these ways:

  1.  By informing you, and you generously give for that specific need (hurricane disaster relief, food provision during Covid/marketplace shut down, etc)
  2.  Sometimes through a small portion of your gifts
  3. Through “Release Fund,” initiated and funded by CIDM Haitian staff (more to come on this another time).

This story touches me in so many different levels. One is how thankful I am that this couple was spiritually and emotionally equipped with the love of Jesus to take this child as their own. CIDM’s proclamation of the gospel and biblical discipleship this past decade has and is making a difference in how people live.

Another thought, CIDM was able to support the deaf couple so that THEY could be the hands and feet of Jesus to this baby boy.  Through CIDM, God has enabled THEM to be the “hero” to this baby.

On another level I must ask myself this question:  if I were handicapped and poor, would I take another child as my own? Lord, give me that selfless heart that gives and solely trusts in You.

In closing, as we grapple with the results of this broken world, we must look to Jesus Christ for hope and salvation.  One day satan will be defeated and sin will be no more.  “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”  Romans 6:23
