Amidst the reality of so much darkness and despair in Haiti, there shines a beautiful story of a girl named Sophia. She is on our Lavi Reyel worship team, and at just 21 years old, she is a beautiful example of a young person spreading God’s message of love and hope through her gift of singing and song writing.
Growing up, Sophia accepted Jesus into her heart at age 9, and had always been drawn to music, nurturing a dream of becoming a Christian musical artist. Little did she know that her lyrics and voice would not only be a source of joy and inspiration but also a powerful instrument for spreading God’s message of peace and redemption, especially to fellow Haitians during extremely turbulent times in their nation.
In the video, she sings, “Your power is limitless / I raise my hands / As a sign of gratitude / For what you have done / I can’t stop thanking you.” Isn’t it beautiful to hear worship to our same God in foreign languages? Even though she sings in Haitian Creole, our hearts resonate through the power of the Holy Spirit and join in worship along with her.
We were recently privileged to have an interview with Sophia. Her life story began on a sad note, as her mom died when she was only one year old, but her dad skillfully raised and nurtured her in in the love of Jesus. She’s been singing for as long as she can remember, being blessed by her dad’s natural gifting and encouragement in music. At the age of 9, Sophia said yes to Jesus and fully gave her heart to Him. From then on, God gave her a dream of becoming a Christian musical artist…a powerful instrument spreading God’s message of love and redemption. Her passion continues to grow as God blesses her gift of music, using it as a source of joy and inspiration to others. Since graduating from high school, Sophia has been taking courses in entrepreneurship and computer. She hopes to one day attend college.
A friend invited Sophia to Lavi Reyel Bible Club in March 2023. Her faith journey began to grow even deeper as she attended weekly. Joining the worship team at Lavi Reyel, Sophia found a platform where she could share her faith and glorify God through her talent. With each note she sings, Sophia pours her heart into worship, using her voice to uplift and inspire those around her. Through her involvement with Lavi Reyel and the worship team, Sophia is actively using her calling, making a tangible difference in the lives of those around her.
Thanks to her God-given talent and her dad’s excellent coaching, Sophia never had voice lessons throughout her life, but since her above video has been released, she has begun voice lessons. She is already working on writing her next song and production of her YouTube that we will all enjoy. When asked who her favorite American Christian artist was, she immediately answered Lauren Daigle.
When we asked Sophia what her dream was for singing, her answer was Matthew 28:19 “Go, therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”
God’s given her a heart to make disciples of all nations through the gift the gift of music. She envisions using her gift of singing to make disciples for God, touching lives and spreading His message of love and salvation.
Ending our interview with Sophia, we asked her what she’d like to say to the American people. First she said “Never forget that God loves you so much and that He is faithful”. Second, she asked that you follow her on social media. Here are her platforms:
“Subscribe” and “Thumbs Up” Sophia on YouTube
Together let’s pray that God would direct Sophia as she seeks to bless Haiti and the world with her gift of worship and adoration to the Lord through music. May the Lord fulfill her dreams beyond her wildest imaginations. “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever.” Ephesians 3:20-21
As Sophia continues to inspire others with her music and her faith, she stands as a testament to the transformative power of hope and perseverance. Her story serves as a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is light to be found.
